Can't cancel account

I used people finders and paid the money for the short use then wanted to cancel the acct. when I went to cancel it said I had to sing in, so when I did it said my user name or password were incorrect which is crazy because I wrote them down and had them right in front of me... username : judyhornbuckle @***.com can call me for password . Now I can't send it because I didn't put a value of loss, maybe I should put the .95, because I didn't find out a thing , nothing at all, zero. I want the account cancelled as of now...5/12/2014 at 12:50 a.m.

Don't bother it's a total rip off!

I was looking for my sister. I went to Peoplefinders and paid their fees. The first listing said 20 possible hits. #20 was a match! I was so excited. I clicked on #20 and they wanted more money. What I did receive was a different listing and #20 (the one I wanted) was not even listed on the second listing! They suck you in and just keep asking for more money. Don't waste your time with Peoplefinders and save your money for something worth doing. ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! !

Total Rip Off. Didn't Get What I Paid For.

BUYER BEWARE!! I went to their site to locate an old friend from high school. I located the person and paid the $1.95 one time fee for the information. The person I was looking for was in Ohio. The information I received was from people in California, not Ohio. So I just went to another site and obtained the correct information I needed. I then called PeopleFinders.com at 800-718-**** and talked to some woman. I explained what happened and she said it was a computer glitch. I asked for a refund of which she said they don't give refunds but would be happy to do another search for me. I told her I already got the info I needed and I wanted a refund. She again said they don't give refunds even though the computer glitch was their fault. So even though they admitted it was their fault, they still refused to issue a refund. Lesson learned. DON'T DO BUSINESS WITH PEOPLEFINDERS.COM

Complete Ripoff of credit card info!

I bought a one-time lookup for .95 and NEVER signed up for anything, yet somehow my debit card is getting billed $24.95 a month for something I never signed up for! I had to cancel my card to make sure they don't keep on charging and dispute the charges with my card holder. Once they get your card info they just start taking your money without your authorization. I remember seeing a checkbox on the web site when I bought my lookup that said sign me up for a membership and I UNCHECKED it and they started charging anyway. Don't EVER use this service, it's like a phishing scam!

I signed up for the one time search. I began getting billed for $24.95 per month.

When I called, the clerk kept repeating that I had checked the box and agreed to the monthly membership.

This is a rip off. Do not use this service as they are clearly trying to trick people into signing up for a monthly fee.

Deceptive Practices - A one-time use created a monthly subscription charge of $24.95

I once used People Finders and was automatically signed up for a monthly subscription at a cost of $24.95, an amount that can easily pass beneath the radar on the monthly credit card bill. This deceptive practice cost me $200 before I noticed this bogus charge. My complaint to my credit card company resulted in my credit card agent calling People Finders and getting me a one-month rebate... After the call, I realized that People Finders and the credit card company are complicit in this scam, because the credit card company gets a percentage from People Finders for every amount they charge me. What a scam! the credit card company has no incentive to protect me. In fact, it is the opposite! They make money from this scam, too.

Reverse Phone Number Address Lookup

This organization is a complete joke. I joined today, entered 2 phone numbers. NO INFORMATION was available for either one and they state that they can find anyone...BOGUS!!! I cancelled my account immediately and encourage anyone who is interested in doing this not to! Not only was the information sheet blank, I was being asked to pay for other information that was supposed to be included in the original report. I think this organization is a scam. I don't know which "reverse phone number" company is the best and has the most correct information, but I assure you this isn't it! Don't use them.

SCAM - paid $7.99 for a reverse phone look up because peoplefinders claimed they had the name and address. what I got was a city and state and an excuse that debt collectors & other companies use a city & state as their name so the receiving party won't know who they are.

WHAT A SCAM.

Guest

It will depend on how much information is available and when they say they have located the person, any of them that I have looked at have wanted extra pay. If you know somebody that you want their phone number I would suggest you ask them for it.

If you want other information that you can't obtain from the person themselves you are just plain being nosey. When I have looked at these sites I am looking for various relatives that I can contact for my genealogy problem, but after I dig enough I can find other ways to contact them, other than paying for the information.

Be Warned of SCAM from People Finder's. Automatic Charges you don't want.

I read the following complaint and the EXACT same thing happened to me. BEWARE of this company.

"I needed to find a phone number for a friend of mine. Went to PeopleFinder.com, typed in the name and state and got the choice of paying $1.95 or .95. I clicked on .95 and then saw that I was signing up for $24.95 a month for all the lookups I wanted. Well, I didn't want that so I backed up and clicked on the $1.95 button. Days later I found that I had been charged $.95 plus $24.95. Tried to dispute it but the credit card company said that by clicking on the $1.95 button I was agreeing to those terms. 18438dc"

Typed a distant family relatives name in the search bar of safari search engine, I got the wrong information as a result . Mind you I didn’t register or agreed to any terms of this consumer or site nor did I give any of my banking info to this site.

UNAUTHORIZED CHARGES. HOW DID YOU GET MY BANKING INFO.

Guest

i did the same thing but i lock my debit card on my banks so every once in a while i see a denied charge on my account from them.

Guest

Friend finder, give an email address and your doomed with spam, I created a trash email account and glad I did all I get is spam all day all need get, should be a law against this type of ***. Heed my warning, I Se a *** email account.

Guest

I just fell for this scam as well. Didn't realize what I was signing up for (very vague on the site) I wonder how many others where duped into this.

I believe that is the way they make their money to support this site. Shame on me for not being more informed and cautions....shame on them for knowing this will happen and basically scamming the funds from unsuspecting consumers.

Guest

Same thing happened to me. I emailed them and they are refunding my charge to the credit card. Hopefully, that will take care of it.

Guest

I would raise Cain if my card company did that. Suggest you consider doing that too.

It happened to me with both Peoplefinder and Truthfinder several times in 10-11/2016.. I didn't click ok on anything having to do with a charge. I just backed out. I don't know how they got my card number.

I cancelled the card and got a new one.

I will be credited back. I told them they should investigate them as Fraud or not to let them use their charge account.

Guest

just happened to me. and the csr was very rude talking over me

Guest

Total rip off. Do not use, they will start charging you a monthly charge.

They got me for $24.95/ month. I had to cancel my debit card to get it stopped. Still lost the $24.95. My bank would have refunded me that amount but they would have lost the $24.95 .

So i'm chalking it you to bought intelligence. What a scam. Do not deal with these crooks.

Never again. If i9t says FREE or FREE TRIAL BEWARE.

Guest

They got me like that too! The information wasn't even useful!

Guest

They billed me 29.95 and 620 for auto parts on 10 /12 2015. How can we stop this?

Fraud

Updated by user Jun 05, 2013

Location is Sacramento California (home office of People Finders)

Original review Jun 05, 2013
I open an account with PeopleFinders in 2010....I used the account to find an old friend of mines....I was unsuccesful in finding the person so i decided to cancel my account a few days later....I spoke to a male customer service rep who "supposedly" help me the the cancellation process. He assure me that the account was closed...Apparently the account wasn't closed.

So from 2010 to May 2013 thye were still deducting money from my account. In may 2013 my account went in the negative and i was notified by my bank. I was told by my bank that my account went in the negative because of a withdrawal from PeopleFinders. I went ahead and contacted the company and explain to them that my account was closed out since 2010.

They responded by saying the account was open in 2012. The account was used to find someone by the name of Judy A....I told them i open the account back in 2010 to find a male friend of mines i served with during the war in Afghanistan. I told them i don't know a Judy A. I also explain to them that my wallet was stolen in 2012 and may be someone may have open an account using my information.

After the wallet incident, i cancelled all of my cards and were issued new ones. The strange thing about this issue; i ask the PeopleFinders customer service rep, what account information they had on file. I was given the information to my old card that was stolen last year. So i ask how can you deduct money from my account up until May 2013, if that card was closed out 2012.

They were unable to provide a response.

PeopleFinders is a bunch of RIP-OFF and *** artist. Consumers be aware.

PeopleFinder is a misleading and fraudulent business. They have entered me in a automatic payment plan for 2 charges for $24.99 and $19.99.

When I checked my previous Statement it goes all the way to January. I called to to find out what these charges are, the rude lady who answered the phone said that I visited their site once in Jan and paid $1.95 for a record and never cancelled my membership???? I was never enrolled for a membership. When I explained to her, she hung up the phone on me.

I am disputing the charges on my credit card.

STAY AWAY FROM peoplefinders.com! They are FRAUD!!!!

"membership" is manipulative and misleading.

I made a .95 purchase and they entered me into a "membership" for 24.95 per month. Beware, when you make the purchase they are signing you up and charging you. This is very manipulative and unethical. I am disputing the charge with my credit card company. Don't use this company! I asked for a refund, but they went into a long line of baloney of how they told me what would happen and that I had three days to cancel. This is not the way to do business. It is not right to try and "trick" your customers. Never use this company. They are not honest and forthright. They used a tricky method to charge money. I will never use them again and I suggest that you don't either.

7 day free trial a scam!!!

I joined so I could check the background criminal charges on a person we were thinking of hiring. She had made us aware that she had one and I wanted to know if what she had put on her application was the truth. People Finders.com came up with nothing on her!!! To make matters worse the ad I signed up through said it was a 7 day free trial but when I got an email thanking me for joining 7 days had turned into 3!!! I sent them an email immediately and canceled less then 24 hours after I joined. I will also call tomorrow and cancel over the phone. We'll see what happens.

You also agree to not use any information they provide you to determine a person's eligibility for employment when you sign up. Therefore, you are in material breach of contract.

You must pay. Friggin' ***.

Unauthorize Charge to my VISA

I implemented a people search for someone and I did the usual search for $1.95. This company placed me in a membership status and charged my card for $29.50. I did not authorize this charge. I called and spoke with a rep; he states that he is going to send me a screenshot of my authorization. I ask how do I know if that is my authorization. His response was "I know". I said, if you know that than you can look at my history to know that I never sign up for membership on your site. His response "I cannot look at your history; my response was than you can possibly have a screen shot of what I authorized". I ask to speak with a manager. His response "we don't have one" and I was sent to a voicemail. I went off. So, now I am on a quest to go to every social media site I know (and I work in IT) to let people know if you have to use this site please, please be very careful. You may want to screenshot every step you make; but if you do not have to use this site I very strongly suggest that you do not. You will be charge $29.50 in addition to the $1.95 for services. If the company was close by I would be arrested by now because I would have shown up.

More trouble with people finders

tried today to purchase a one time only information on someone who owes me money. Skipped over the part of the form dealing with membership and asked for the $1.95 report. Application would not let me proceed until I filled out top of form. I I'd so giving them a password. Tried to get my report. Was told I had the wrong Password. Had them e-mail it. Got e-mail from welcoming me "back" As a member and giving me a password attached to an old (cancelled in 2012) account. Tried to use that which required an updated CC. Gave them that info and was still unable to get info because the error message said wrong sec. Code number. Input info 3 times and still got error message. Thats when I went on this sight . As a result I called PF and cancelled any possible memberships and my $1.95 order for info I never did receive. They assured me that there was nothing wrong with my CC but MC would just not approve the purchase. Could it be that MC is trying to save me from PF. Will call them to find out.

Charged my card without authorization

I never used peoplefinder.com and they charged my bank card two days in a row for 50.94 each day. I have no idea how they got my information or how they were able to charge my card. My bank is trying to clear up the situation. I don't know how they got my personal information when I never even used their site but they are obviously thieves and will take money from anyone's account if given the opportunity. I now have to go through the hassle of getting a new card and new account numbers. I think that they should be paying me for my troubles.

Added me to membership, I approved one time only!

I approved the one time only, and now my account is being charged $24.95. I don't want a membership. I can't afford it! Please cancel immediately and return my $24.95. I will never use your company again! If I'm not satisfied, I will place a complaint with the BBC, and any where else I can find, to let others know what your company does! I might have used your company many times, but not after this. I feel so ripped off! Please, please correct this error immediately and return my money. I don't have it to just throw away.
